Fun for the whole family

You would think that in a relatively small family like mine, we could go out to eat in one restaurant that has enough variety where everyone could be happy. Not so much.

Tonight is the eve of Canada Day and almost a Friday night. Being the end of the week, we try to eat out as a family. (And by the end of the week, I don’t want to cook another family dinner!)

So my husband had a great idea, he would take out our daughter and I got to dine with our son. Who picked ABC Country restaurant and had this appetizer?

And who picked Kami Sushi and had Gomae? See this quick and easy recipe. This is a good way to get, even children, to eat cooked spinach.


  • 7 ounce baby spinach
  • 1 tsp salt

Sesame Dressing

  • 4 tbsp white sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame seed paste
Recipe Method
1. Wash spinach thoroughly, and blanch in slightly salted water, just until stems get tender. 2. Cool down in a bowl of cold water and let sit for 10 minutes, drain, and set aside. 3. To make sesame dressing, toast sesame seeds in a frying pan until brown and crush with a mortar and pestle, add sugar, soy sauce, soy sauce and sesame seed paste. 4. Squeeze spinach dry and cut into 1 inch lengths. 5. Coat spinach with sesame seed paste and toss lightly.
