The parents have been making quite a racket all Spring. If anyone gets too close, they are dive bombing and clearly letting the intruders know they are not wanted in the general area.
I am talking about House Finches that have successfully hatched a clutch of eggs in a bird box attached to our house.
There is a range of creatures that make their way over to that part of the garden and cause concern to the Mamma. But the most concerning to her was the Stellars Jay that was aggressively trying to get at the babies. It was such a sight to see, because the senior Finches were not going down without a fight. I only wish there was a camera at hand to capture it all.
Yesterday, as I walked around with my camera, I could see the babies with their mouths wide open, waiting for food. You can just make it out in the photo.
Anyone who is a parent can probably remember that completely dependent little being. Then, before you know it, they are on to the next stage, not needing you quite so much one day as they did the day before.
