One Day We’ll Be Old

One of the things I look forward to during the biannual European sales meeting is the music at the fashion show. I am either reminded of something old or exposed to new things. This year it is a German DJ Remix of One Day / Reckoning song. (This link is to the 7:02 version on YouTube, iTunes has the download).

This is a haunting song. Got me to thinking of the lyrics on the first hearing. “One day baby, we’ll be old and think of all the stories we could have told.”

It was my birthday during this past week. Depending on how you look at it, I’m still young. And even if I’m not young, I’m not that old, either. The notion that we desire to have good stories to tell, at a later date, seemed somewhat profound.

Reckoning has always been such an interesting word. Doesn’t get used so much in modern speech. I guess it is more introspective. Thinking back over a life, for instance, adding up what was important.

As I made my way home today on my 15 hour journey, I had some time to think over my week. While so many good things happened and I lead a pretty amazing like, there were some less desirable aspects to reckon. And so I did, and I feel great for having taken the time to do so.

Because – one day I’ll be old and I want the stories to be told.
