“I like to compare the holiday season with the way a child listens to a favorite story. The pleasure is in the familiar way the story begins, the anticipation of familiar turns it takes, the familiar moments of suspense, and the familiar climax and ending.” ~Fred Rogers
We starting packing this evening. In so many ways, we are ready. Actually tossing some personal effects into a suitcase is just a formality.
I have been extremely fortunate this year. There have been some amazing trips taken, both for work and pleasure. Some of the notable locations, include:
- Kicking off the New Year in La Paz, Mexico
- My birthday in Strömstad, Sweden
- Our wedding anniversary of 18 years in New York City
Now we are heading back down to Baja California Sur for a last family vacation before we take a bit of a travel break. Next year, we are going to stay closer to home, focusing our attention on family and friends. It feels like we need to realign our priorities. Be careful not to take our relationships for granted. Celebrate the seasons with those we care about the most.
But for now, we are so ready for a break from all the responsibilities and routine. We are looking forward to the warmth of the sun. We will drink in the healing rays and fill up our souls. We will try to appreciate everything on offer. It will need to last for a while. Going in with that knowledge might help our short memories extend far into the future.
